Why Do I want to design Zene?
As a person that likes meditation, I have noticed that beginners such as myself who has just started practicing self-care can find it challenging sometimes. So I wanted to find a way to help others and myself to overcome these challenges.
Design Outcome

01
Understand
1.1 Understanding the problem
In order to understand the problem, I did some research online. I wanted to find out some numbers on how many people had stopped doing meditation and why.

1.3 Small online user survey
I wanted to know other’s opinion on this concept that I have, so I asked people on an online meditation community :
Whether rewarding and interaction features would motivate the beginners to meditate more ?
There were 5 responses, all of them said Yes. However, 2 of them expressed a concern to me :
“People might ending up using it just to keep the plants and pets alive without actually practicing meditation or overdoing it to gain more for the worng reasons”
2.1 what are the problems?
After I gathered more informations, my conclusion is that most of the people find mediating too..

Most of the avaliable meditating apps are too informative and too long to keep people interested. There are not many fun interactions between the users and the app thus no motivation for the users to keep on using. It does not give many feedbacks or reactions which lower the user’s interest level. In the end, most people find it hard to countinue. As a result, gives up on meditation.
How to make the meditation experiences more interesting, interactive and enjoyble?
Then I started to write down ideas and features that I could use in this app ..

2.2 Solution
After brainstorming, I came up with this meditation game app “Zene” that will make the mediation experience more interactive and less boring. It has reward systems, nurturing function and short sessions options to keep the users interested, engaged and more willing to try. This also creates another motive for the users to do meditation.
2.3 Define Design Goals
The goal is to encourage the users to meditate more and creates motivations for them to continue.

3.1 Persona

3.2 Storyboard
I drew a storyboard to illustrate my concept more clearly..

When the user finished the meditation session, they can earn points to decorate their room after each session. The plants they bought will keep growing bigger and the pets will be encouraging the user every time they use the app.
On the other hand, if the users forgot to return to the app the plants would die, the pets would starve. Additionally, to prevent the users from overdoing the meditation for the sole purpose of gaining the energies to feed pets and plants, I set a maximum limit of meditations that can be performe.
3.3 Sketches
I started sketching some possible layouts for the app based on the concepts I have.

3.4 Wireframes
After sketching out the possible layouts on paper, I made wireframes with the general user flows.

3.5 Illustrations
The illustrations of all the plants and pets I made for this app.

Design Iterations
4.1 Home Background
I didn’t like how the first background came out, I find it too small and far for users to see and interact with the pets and plants. I changed it to a room with a nice view, because I think it provides more closeness and calmness..

4.2 Breathwork Page
I think the first version was a bit out of place. I made all of them align in the center to create a direct flow that just goes straight down.

5.1 UI design with the main user flows.
